Saturday night it was easy to imagine what the crowd sounded like in August 1964, when The Beatles played Colorado’s iconic Red Rocks Amphitheater. But in 2023, this was no Fab Four boy band from Britain- this was boygenius- the Tremendous Three from Los Angeles featuring Julien Baker, Phoebe Bridgers, and Lucy Dacus. The supergroup of the summer brought the noise on stage and off- each song followed by deafening screams from teen fans and their parents alike, all riding a Barbie-pink wave of girl-power that has washed over Post-Roe America this summer. From the opening rocker $20, boygenius proved they have nothing to prove- this is a female fronted band with major chops, the best harmonies, and a friendly, engaging relationship with each other and their fans that rivals any boy band, maybe even the Beatles.
