Some people call him Maurice. You might know him as the Space Cowboy. But Monday night at Red Rocks, the Joker ruled as the Steve Miller Band celebrated 50 years of- The Joker- which, in 1973 was Steve Miller Band’s 8th Studio album. Let that sink in- the guy who had 8 studio albums by 1973 rocking Red Rocks in 2023. Guitar wizard Miller, turning 80 next month, charmed the decidedly mixed-age crowd with dozens of songs they knew every word to, (think “Fly Like an Eagle,” “Take the Money and Run,” “Abracadabra,” and TWO versions of “Jet Airliner” just to name a few…), his iconic guitar riffs carried on the late summer breeze. He also told lots of great stories, including a loving tribute to his godfather, Les Paul, who taught him how to play and also made him purchase his own first Gibson Les Paul guitar.
